Satellite Art Show tried to silence Jewish & Israeli artists. Guess what? They failed.
In December, I received this message:
“STARS in the ARTS, an exhibition of Jewish & Israeli artists, including the NOVA Survivors Collection, was canceled last minute by SATELLITE Art Show largely because it featured Israeli creatives—even though the art is not political, but about healing, grief, and resilience.
We have successfully RELOCATED the full exhibition and survivor program [. . .] and now we urgently need the community to show up. This isn’t just an art show—it’s a stand against the growing movement to silence Israeli creatives in cultural spaces. Your presence matters. Bring friends, family, and community. Let’s fill the room and show that Jewish and Israeli voices will NOT be erased.”
I was proud to show up and support this exhibition, and thrilled to learn that the community response has been incredible.
@starsinthearts is a vibrant exhibition featuring pieces by @annettebackfineart , @liliankebudiart , @ianmenachemcohen , @shirahkleinart and more, as well as a collection of work created by NOVA survivors (including photographer @shyeklein ).
I had the chance to speak with artist Ian Menachem Cohen about the meaning behind his stunning “Sliver of Gold Ombre” pieces in blue and pink. He explained that every 3x3 square represents 1% of the world’s population, while the gold in the center proportionally reflects the Jewish community.
We may be small, but we are mighty. Yet again our story is one of resilience, and I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this community. Bravo, Stars in the Arts. Part of the collection can now be viewed online, please click here.
